Beyond The Pie Chart  is the first in a series of articles for UX Magazine about data visualization and related disciplines. Future articles will explore emerging ways to visually represent massive volumes of dynamic data in areas ranging from business, medicine and government to journalism, education and games.

This article explores medical data visualization projects from various perspectives, from individual patient records to global populations, and how they can give form to and highlight vital but otherwise invisible patterns.

 

Here’s an excerpt from the cover story, "The Counterfeit You” that I wrote for Interactions magazine- "Imagine that some stranger in a shady corner of the Web comes across your name and a few details of your life and puts together an online presence uncomfortably reminiscent of you. Hard to know what to think at first. It could be anything from coincidence to a con or something else altogether. But this feels more ominous than the theft of a credit card number.
